Waterproofing Paint

The number one reason for siding and wall failure is moisture. It’s by far the most destructive element that a home has to face; especially in our wet Vancouver climate where waterproofing is paramount to a home’s performance. Why? Because once dampness and moisture penetrate the walls, they begin to decompose the paint as well as the insulation. This eventually leads to the development of mold and mildew, creating a health hazard for your family, children and pets. We want to make sure you live in a strong and healthy environment, not a house that requires constant, costly repairs.

At AZ Painting, we are extensively qualified and experienced in the waterproofing of your walls and siding. We love helping homeowners maintain the value of their investments and extend the lifetimes of their biggest assets. Although waterproofing coating can be an expensive investment, this method can save property owners heavy costs when done correctly.

What Does Waterproofing Help Prevent?

Stucco and Concrete Wall Damage

Crack lines or other defects in your stucco or concrete walls are the results of movements as the building structure settles, causing some damage to the structure. These cracks and defects invite water and moisture inside, causing it to decay, decompose and grow mold and mildew. Even further damage can take place if it’s not taken care of on time.

The Effects of Weathering

Rain, sun, ultraviolet rays, wind-driven rain and snowmelt are all contributors to the damage your exterior siding has to face. Harsh sunlight and freeze/thaw cycles will eventually take their toll on your siding if you don’t take preventative measures. Insects, birds and other wildlife can also cause damage.

Water & Moisture Damage

Moisture will cause some materials to rot and grow mold and fungus. Other materials will show water damage by swelling and warping while steel will show it by rusting. A surefire way to prevent this in the first place is by waterproofing your exterior surfaces.

High Energy Bills

When cracks and holes in siding go unnoticed, you will begin to notice yourself paying higher-than-normal energy bills. Once moisture seeps in those cracks and damages the insulation, your home will no longer have the temperature-control it once used to.

Interior Wall Damage

Exterior wall damage will more-often-than-not become interior wall damage, which is why it’s so important to have a professional take a look before it’s too late. Additionally, we advise that humidity and moisture-ridden parts of the home, like the basement, also be waterproofed.

High-Build Coating

Elastomeric paint products are great to apply on concrete foundations, bricks and or stucco walls to keep your house interior and basement dry. The elastomeric coating allows moisture and air to be released from the wall but won’t allow it in. This technology also has the ability to move with the structure of your building.

High Build Coating is an elastomeric coating which provides excellent flexibility, durability, and weather resistance. This product will protect against wind-driven rain when used on tilt-up, precast, or poured-in-place concrete, CMU, and stucco. This may be applied to a surface with a pH of 6 to 12. Coverage will vary with the substrate and the texture. A minimum total dry film thickness of 12 – 15 mm of topcoat (excluding texture) and a surface with 10 or less pinholes per square foot is required for a waterproofing system.

The Benefits of High-Build/Elastomeric Coating:

  • Blocks concrete’s porous structure
  • Highly flexible
  • Smooth application
  • Resistant to solvents & microorganisms
  • Makes surfaces resistant to cracking, peeling, flaking, blistering & chalking
  • Powerful adhesion
  • Long-term colour retention (slower fading time)
  • Minimal odour
  • Fast dry time
